And although I've worked as a teacher and child's psychotherapist for many years, practicing Arts & Crafts has always been such a big and important part of my life, for as long as I can remember and most definitely inspired and influenced by my wonderful and creative mum!

 

My love for nature and especially waterfronts stems from my childhood, being born and growing up in a small Dutch village with lots of streams, canals and no less than 12 lakes, where I lived until my family and I emigrated to New Zealand in 2005. In Summer you could always find me by, in or on the water, on my parents' boat and later with friends and my own kids. In Winter, when the canal and lakes were frozen, I remember lots of skating, at first with mum and my younger brother and later with friends; a hot chocolate always waiting at home, when we came off the lake, freezing cold. After emigrating to New Zealand my husband and I eventually sold our house and bought a sailing yacht, now 5 years ago and have been living on it in the marina ever since.  Although I have to admit  there were moments when I missed my spacious studio in our house, able to create big pieces, I never ever regretted this move once! And we were even able to create a small studio space on the boat, for me to paint and create. Living on the water with views over the Pacific Ocean and creating Art, is honestly all I could've ever dreamed of!

After some health problems, about 7 years ago, I gave up my job as a psychotherapist and that was the moment I started painting and creating full time from home. I started "ZeaZo Art Studio" and began selling my paintings at local Art & Craft Fairs, markets, online and represented by two galleries in New Zealand. I came up with the name "ZeaZo", representing my love for both The Netherlands and New Zealand: obviously "Zea" stands for New ZEAland and the whole word itself sounds like "ziezo" in Dutch, which means so much as "Done! I did it!". And that's exactly how I feel now; I do what I always dreamed of and love most, never looked back and I still wake up every morning, grateful and looking forward to another day of creating, to pick up my brushes and get the paint out!
